You know the drill.
You've told them to start their homework three times. Their backpack is a disaster. The iPad has been off for twenty minutes and you're still hearing about it…And you're exhausted.
Executive functioning challenges don't mean your child isn't smart or capable. They mean your child needs support building the systems their brain hasn't developed yet. And summer — without the structure of the school day — tends to make everything harder.
That's exactly what the BFC Summer Skills Studio is designed for.
What Is the Summer Skills Studio?
The BFC Summer Skills Studio is a small group, clinically led program where children build practical executive functioning skills through hands-on, engaging activities — Lego and STEM challenges, baking projects, board games, and escape room experiences.
This isn't a camp. It isn't tutoring. It's a therapeutic group experience facilitated by licensed therapists, designed to teach kids how to initiate tasks, manage their time, stay flexible when things don't go as planned, and regulate their emotions when things feel hard.
And the skills they build here go home with them.

DIFFERENTIATORS — WHY BFC, WHY THIS PROGRAM
What Makes This Different
Clinically Led by Licensed Therapists
Every session is facilitated by two licensed therapists. This isn't an enrichment program staffed by camp counselors. It's a therapeutic group experience grounded in evidence-based approaches to executive functioning — delivered by professionals who understand child development, emotional regulation, and how to make skill-building actually stick.
Small Groups, Real Relationships
With just 3–8 children per group, your child isn't lost in a crowd. Therapists know every child in the room and can tailor support in the moment. Kids build real skills alongside peers who get it — because they're navigating the same challenges.
Parent Session Included
Every Wednesday from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, parents are invited to join a therapist-led parent session. Learn what your child is working on, ask questions, and get practical strategies to reinforce skills at home. Attendance is optional and included at no additional cost.
The Home Practice Toolkit
Every family who enrolls in any week receives the BFC Executive Functioning Skills Studio Curriculum — including a home practice toolkit with activities, strategies, and tools designed to help parents reinforce what kids are learning between sessions. It’s more than a workbook. It's a roadmap for building a less exhausting summer at home.
Flexible by Design
Because summer schedules are unpredictable, participation is purchased by the week — not by the full summer. Enroll for one week or all eight. Your child can attend the weeks that work for your family and skip the ones that don't.
WHO IT'S FOR
Is This the Right Fit for Your Child?
The Summer Skills Studio is designed for children ages 7–11. It may be a great fit if your child:
- Needs multiple reminders to start tasks they know how to do
- Struggles to manage time, transitions, or unexpected changes in plans
- Becomes dysregulated when asked to stop a preferred activity
- Loses things, forgets things, or falls apart during unstructured time
- Has capacity and intelligence that isn't showing up in their daily functioning
- Has been diagnosed with ADHD or has been told they may have executive functioning challenges
Children ages 6 or 12 may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Reach out and tell us about your child — we're happy to help you determine whether it's a good fit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need a diagnosis to participate?
No. Many children who struggle with executive functioning don’t have any formal diagnosis or need one. If the description above sounds like your child, we encourage you to reach out. We're happy to talk through whether the program is a good fit.
Is this therapy? Do we need to sign clinical paperwork?
Yes — because the program is facilitated by licensed therapists, it is considered a group therapy service. New families will complete a streamlined consent and intake process through our secure client portal before their child's first session. For current BFC clients, the process is even simpler.
What if we can only do some of the weeks?
That's completely fine. Participation is purchased by the week. You can enroll in one week, a few weeks, or the full summer, whatever works for your family's schedule. Each week is a complete experience on its own.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations made before the enrollment deadline (the Wednesday prior to that week's session) receive a refund minus a $50 administrative fee. After the enrollment deadline, fees are non-refundable but may be applied as a credit toward a future week. If BFC cancels a session due to insufficient enrollment, a full refund is issued.
What is the enrollment deadline each week?
Enrollment closes the Wednesday before each Tuesday/Wednesday session week. This gives our team time to confirm the group, prepare materials, and communicate with families.
How do I enroll?
Email us at info@bellairefamilycounseling.com with the subject line "Summer Skills Studio" and tell us which week(s) you're interested in. We'll follow up with intake documents and an invoice through our secure client portal. Your spot is confirmed once intake is complete and payment is received.
Will my child know anyone else in the group?
Possibly — many families in the Bellaire, West University, River Oaks, Meyerland, and surrounding communities know each other through school and activities. We address confidentiality and group norms directly with both parents and children as part of our intake process.
Who are the therapists leading the sessions?
All sessions are facilitated by licensed therapists employed by Bellaire Family Counseling. Our About Our Therapists page has full bios and credentials for each member of our team.
