Play Therapy
There are a lot of misunderstandings about what play therapy is.
Play therapy is NOT:
-Letting children play with toys while talking to them about how to manage their feelings
-A way to make therapy seem more fun so that kids will want to come
-A backup plan when talking doesn’t work
Play therapy is a powerful and effective intervention that allows children to process their feelings and express themselves in the way that is most natural for their developing bodies and brains. Children use toys to tell their stories and express their feelings. Trained therapists are able to reflect, challenge, and encourage, all within the context of play. There are opportunities for limit setting, conflict resolution, and practicing of social and emotional skills.
