    Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor

    Betsy Smith, LPC-S is the founder and owner of Bellaire Family Counseling. In addition to her private practice, she has served as the Clinical Training Director for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program at The University of St. Thomas in Houston. Betsy has also been published on GoodTherapy.org on topics including emotional abuse, non-suicidal self-injury, and bullying. She enjoys providing training to parents, teachers, and staff at local schools, churches and community services organizations.

    She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin. Later, she returned to school and received a Master’s of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston. Betsy went on to obtain additional training and experience in play therapy, filial therapy, crisis counseling, and individual and group therapy for children and adults.

    Before moving into private practice, Betsy served as the Social and Emotional Program Director for Small Steps Nurturing Center, a multi-site nonprofit organization that provides services to at-risk families in the inner city of Houston, TX. At Small Steps Betsy provided supervision of clinical staff, individual and group therapy, and training to parents, teachers, and volunteers.

    Betsy specializes in treating OCD and related disorders in children, teens, and adults. She has completed the Behavioral Therapy Training Institute through the International OCD Foundation. She uses Exposure and Response Prevention in her work with OCD spectrum disorders.
